Amendment to Improve Transparency Approved

I kept my promise to improve transparency on the McHenry County Board.

I kept my promise to improve transparency on the McHenry County Board.

Friends, when you elected me to the McHenry County Board I promised you three things:

  • Fiscal Responsibility
  • Limited Government
  • Transparency

I am really happy, and thankful, to report that a majority of my colleagues on the McHenry County Board voted to approve my amendment to the McHenry County Action Plan that will improve transparency.  Sadly, Springfield gave us an unfunded mandate to increase jury duty pay which will be costing you, the McHenry County Taxpayer, hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.  By simply adding the previous year’s jury duty expense to the quarterly report, which will cost no tax dollars and not a lot of time by county staff, we can get the true cost of this unfunded mandate.

We get transparency.

To the 15 of my colleagues that supported my amendment I say thank you.  To the eight colleagues who did not vote for transparency I promise to work harder, speak more eloquently, and try to articulate my positions better.  I am truly thankful for the mutual respect all of us show each other.

Sadly, most politicians make promises but never have the results.  They say all the right things and fire up “the base” but never have anything to show for it.  I made you all a promise that I would work to improve transparency.  Here you go McHenry County.

I give you all my word that not only did I make this promise, but we all have something to show for it.
